Work Experience

Freelance Editor, Proofreader, Homeschool Consultant

March 2014 - Current

My joy is to edit and proofread material related to academics, history, science, homeschooling, and other educational topics. Content that helps humans understand Christ better is also a preferred subject matter. Recent projects have included work with Classical Academic Press, PQ Publishing, UpFlip.com, Outdoorsy.com, Better Health Alaska, and others.

I have always loved a good read and enjoy making the lives of others better with the scribed word. I enjoy bringing other families with us into the world of Outdoor Homeschooling.

My work often comes through Upwork.com or other means. Here is what some of my clients have said about my work:

Challenge A Director
Classical Conversations

March 2020 - May 2021

As a homeschooling family, guiding others through the joys of learning is always a favorite. Duties included attracting homeschool families, leading six weekly seminars for middle school and high school students, planning and conducting group events, handling paperwork and tuition, inspiring students to learn the prescribed material, and many other related tasks.

Editing Assistant to Faculty Member
Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics

March 2014 - June 2014

My duties included researching publisher requirements and comparing them with The Chicago Manual of Style. I proofread and edited articles using Microsoft Word's Track Changes features. I assisted in preparations for publication as requested.

Production Supervisor and Trainer
Kofile Preservation Inc.

February 2010 - April 2013

I was responsible for training employees in the preservation of historical documents. Restoration projects included small, intricate works as well as large 1,000 piece groupings. Tasks included tape removal, document repair, collation, and related needs. My duties also included creating, editing, and maintaining employee manuals and other communications.

One unique feature of this position included that I began work for this company in Vermont (see Joseph J. Marotti Co. below). I enjoyed continuing to work with the company as it desired to implement a new facility in Dallas, TX. Much of my time and effort included creating policies and procedures for the new facility. On the spot planning and problem solving were key in helping to launch the new location. Instructing new trainers to care for and preserve historical documents made this work highly rewarding.

Archival Technician
Joseph J. Marotti Co.

August 2007 - August 2009

My duties included the preservation and restoration of historical and modern documents. This process was accomplished with the removal of tape, residue, and any items that may be harmful to the longevity of each document.

Once this was complete, it was my job to deacidify and repair assigned documents. I was also trained to sew and rebind historical books and encapsulate separated documents. The history and knowledge gained from this position were a joy to me, and I am happy to have been able to participate.

Concierge
The Ahwahnee Hotel (Yosemite Concession Services)

August 2000 - May 2003

I was responsible for ensuring that each guest remained satisfied with every part of his or her stay. Much of my time was spent problem-solving in relation to specific guests needs and seeking ways to prevent problematic situations.

I assisted the front desk with necessary tasks regarding room assignments and other guest issues. I organized special events and activities throughout the year. My duties also included creating and providing literature regarding local events and activities to guests.
